2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG: official details, photos, specs and price

Mercedes-Benz is preparing to launch the SLK roadster for 2012, considered to be the most powerful version of the sports car. The SLK gets an AMG trim and the SLK’s look is made more attractive with a series of enhancements. The SLK will also be getting 415hp from its naturally aspirated V8, from 355hp in the existing model. U.S. dealerships will start to receive the 2012 SLK in early 2012. It is reinforced further with an AMG suspension and high-performance brakes.

The athletic ethos is also evident in the spoiler, body treatments and chrome tailpipes. The roadster will enable the eight cylinders propel the car to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds en route to an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. Its torque rating is at 398 lb-ft. The engine is fitted with a cylinder-deactivation setup, enabling the roadster to be driven on four cylinders.

The powertrain features a seven-speed automatic, which Mercedes refers to as Speedshift. There are three modes for it: controlled efficiency, sport and manual. Mercedes-Benz said that the AMG performance pack is being offered as an option. It features an even stiffer chassis, rear-axle differential lock and upgraded brakes. Its impressive design cues include specific AMG LEDs, a front apron and special badges.[via : 4wheelsnews]
