Volvo’s new mobile application has been given the Best App recognition at the third BusinessCar Fleet Technology Awards - The Techies. This is also the third year in a row that the company has bagged an award for its groundbreaking and innovative technology. Volvo’s City Safety and Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake have won Best Car Safety Device in the past. This year’s recognition emphasizes the continuing steps that the company is taking in its integration and development of technology and mobile connectivity in its vehicles.
The mobile app works along with the company’s On Call telematics technology which is fitted to any Volvo unit from Model Year 2012. The On Call technology enables the user to communicate at a touch of a button with an operator that can provide vocal assistance. The user can even contact and guide the emergency services to the vehicle in the event of an incident. The new mobile app permits the user to communicate with the vehicle, wherever they may be in the world.
However, it depends on the mobile network coverage. The app is downloadable without charge and is compatible with iPhone and any Android smartphone. Volvo Car Corporation’s President and CEO Stefan Jacoby said that the company designs vehicles based on the lifestyle and needs of people. He added that the company’s aim includes the creation of an ergonomically optimized and intuitive driver's environment in order to provide a feeling of relaxed control. Moreover, Jacoby added that it is only logical that one should feel in command of his or her own vehicle, including after it has been parked.[via : 4wheelsnews]
